Making the mundane your muse - OM [one moment] meet up - week #15

You know the elegantly staged bedside tables you see in magazines and interior design photos?  The ones that have a stylish lamp and vase with fresh flowers.  Mine is not like one of those.  Mine normally holds a pile of magazines, my current book, lip gloss, hand cream, an old glass of water, the occasional nail file, and yesterday's tissue.  Not a pretty scene.

One night this week, I crawled into bed early for a little 'me' time (book, TV, quiet).  I was playing around with my iPhone and wondered if I could make the aforementioned objects on and around my bedside table  more interesting through the eye of the iPhone camera.  I was really curious to know if I could take random shots and have them turn out more intriguing.  This is the result.  I am happy to know that my mess can be my muse.

What was your 'one moment' this week? What took you out of your present every day life and made you reflect, appreciate, notice?

Share in the blog comments here, on your own blog (and link back below) or on my Facebook fan page. If you are on Twitter, I've started a hash tag - #omMeetup so that we can converse if we'd like. We'd love to hear your moment this week!

  1. That is exactly what my bedside table looks like (except I keep yesterday's tissue in the drawer. What does that say about me?)

I love taking the ordinary, and not so glamorous, and owning it in an unexpected and beautiful way. You, my friend, are clever.

  2. I LOVE that 2nd picture - the one with the glasses! Isn't it awesome how focussing in something can make it look intriguing? I found this very same thing to be true with the in progress photos I took of hubby making the storage cart!

  3. Such perfect timing! I was cleaning up my house for some friends visiting and spent a good 10 minutes hiding my lotion, my chapstick, my water glass... etc etc. If only they could have looked as well put together as yours!

  5. Amazing photos. I wonder if I can make my stuff look artistic???
Anyway... back to my One Moment. I have been slaving over a mini quilt for my husband's aunt and uncle's 60th wedding anniversary (yes that's 60!) They are wonderful people and have managed to make everyday of their marriage an adventure. I made an art quilt of their house and beloved vintage 62' chrysler 300 convertible. I finished it last night just in time to wrap it and shower before the party. It was worth it! Ended up being the coolest gift they got by far and they cried when they opened it. Glad I could make something nearly as special as they are to me! It was worth all the lost sleep and swollen fingers :)
