Our night at the museum - an adventure at the Museum of Science, Boston

Our night at the museum, originally uploaded by alamodestuff.
E and I spent a night at the Museum of Science in Boston this weekend. What a blast! This well organized adventure is offered up to museum members once a year. This was my first time and I'm so glad I went! C, who took our oldest several years ago, was supposed to go but had to work this weekend.

The evening was filled with special activities and programs. We were the first to see their newest exhibit on whales. It was fun just to be one of 100 or so people roaming the museum until midnight. We ended up sleeping in the nature's mystery exhibit under some trees. [People brought inflatable beds. I brought a camping bed roll which worked out fine.] I can't promise you'll get a lot of sleep.

The next morning, after breakfast, we wandered the museum some more before the doors opened to the public. We saw a fantastic Omni movie on whales and purchased some souvenirs at the museum store before heading home.

This was truly a child's dream come true (even at my age). Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, I highly recommend looking into what your local museums have to offer. If they have overnight programs, it is worth doing with your favorite kid(s). It will be something you always remember.

  2. The science center didn't exist here when my kids were little, but we did overnight adventures at the zoo. Lots of fun!

  3. My oldest boy is just about the right age to do something like this. It sounds great and I look forward to it! Sleep is overrated, right?

  4. Oh, I've always wanted to do something like this! Wandering through a museum/aquarium/zoo after closing sounds so awesome!

Random trivia...my first date with hubby was the Boston Aquarium :-) Not the museum of science, but those two are totally intertwined in my mind as being the 2 places my parents actually took us to in "the big city" growing up that grueling 50 minute drive from Boston...sigh...

  5. Those childhood memories are grand! I practically lived in the Chicago Museum of Science growing up. Then, we lived just blocks away when Max was little and spent countless hours there. Love the museums!
