Greetings from Park City, UT

I hope you had a great weekend. We enjoyed many 4th of July festivities here including a fun parade. I love Park City's casual cool vibe.

We all finally met up at my brother in law's house for our final leg of the journey. It's been awesome hanging w/ family. Today, the boys are going hiking while my sister in law and I are going shopping.

Tomorrow we drive 8 hours to Reno. Thursday we close on our new house and I'll finally be able to share pictures with you.

Greetings from Houston!

Hello, friends! Blogging from my brother's home in Houston. Hot and steamy Texas.

I'm feeling guilty but extremely relieved that C has taken care of the movers and house closing on the RI end. The movers underestimated how much stuff we had by about 70%, so apparently we got a great deal. Two trucks (instead of one) and two long days of packing (instead of one) later, our material possessions are on the road.

E and I have been hanging by my brother's pool and playing w/ my niece and nephew. A sense of calm and relaxation is beginning to wash over me. However, I'm stll longing for the end to this moving chapter.

One day at a time.

Beware, I'm currently wound a bit tight

Hi everyone!  I feel like I'm completely out of the blog/cyber loop.  We are down to the last few weeks before we move to Reno27 days, to be exact.  I was fooling myself in thinking that I'd be anything but harried, emotional, overwhelmed, and nervous.  Simply put, I'm wound up as tight as barbed wire.  Watch out!

Last Friday, I decided to take my products off of my website temporarily.  It's too difficult for me to continue sales when most of my studio is packed away.  You can still access my site as well as contact me.  You just can't buy from it right now.  If you want to be the first to know when products are again available, please join my mailing list

I'm trying to tie up loose ends.  My great friends are organizing our goodbye parties and I'm still sorting, selling, and separating our clothes and household items.  As nomadic as I thought I was, I do not want to move again.  Ever.

I've seen Bridesmaids twice now because I've needed to laugh.  Nothing makes you laugh harder than a girl crapping her pants in a formal gown.  I'm trying to think of things I want to do before we move.  Funny how my brain gets stuck and simple decisions get harder to make.  I find that I just get up and go without actually thinking about it.  I may head to the Lizzy Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River later this week for a tour.  It's something I've wanted to do.

What's going on with you currently?  I know some of you are renovating and gearing up for summer.  I'd love for you to share what's on your plate.

How do you handle limbo? OM [one moment] meet up #51

My husband went to lunch, 14 years ago, with his boss.  He broke the news that he would be leaving Citicorp Diner's Club to pursue medicine.  Ironically, this is the fortune from that lunch.  C found it yesterday as he was packing for London.

Fortuitous

It's hard to believe that 14 years ago, we were just beginning our road through medical school and residency.  At the time, he was just starting to take pre-med courses.  Today, we are a mere 41 days from his last day of residency.  It seems so surreal.

I've been going through an emotional, physical, and mental roller coaster.  Saying goodbye to friends and family is looming and never fun.  Since my back went out 6 weeks ago, I've had to slow down in my normal daily routine.  Added to that, my studio had been packed away and I purposefully stepped back from my business.  In this past week, I began feeling...off.  Something was not quite right.  Not necessarily depression, but unrest.  Since I feel like resting is all I've done lately, this didn't sit well with me.

I went for a walk with a friend of mine who said she was feeling the same.  Although her life situation is different than mine, she was also feeling "off."  It's a kind of limbo.  Can't move forward.  Can't do what we are used to doing this time of year (besides running my business, I'm usually gardening).  Limbo.  We realized we are doers.  We are used to moving at a fast pace through each day, accomplishing a lot and taking little time to rest.  If we aren't 'doing' we feel out of whack.

My moment this week was accepting that I feel my best when I'm busy.  I also realize that this moment in our lives will, hopefully, never happen again.  At least now I know why I've been a bit 'off.'  My new mantra is busy will come back, find ways to enjoy now.

Back from Reno!

I'm back from Reno.  We actually got in on Monday evening.  I didn't expect to go "off the grid" at all let alone for as long as I did.  Must have been what I needed.

We had a wonderful trip.  We wandered, aimlessly, exploring Reno and its surroundings (Truckee, CA and Mt. Rose).  We went to a minor league ball game (Reno Aces), visited our new home (boys first time),  shopped the schools, drove all over the city, ate great food and interesting restaurants, got to know new friends, went skiing (two of us, and not me), bonded with each other, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  We are all the more excited for our big move in just 2 months.

Reflection

My back is much better proving that I overdo things at home.  It took a solid month of taking it easy to feel close to normal.  I certainly don't want to experience that pain again.  I will have to relearn how to do things in moderation which will be difficult as I've always done things in overdrive.

So, what's next?  We are dotting "i's" and crossing "t's" on selling our current home and buying our new one.  I can't wait to share pictures of our home in Reno.  I don't feel like I can yet until it's officially ours in early July.  I will say that it will change the way we live.

I'll edit some more pictures to share with you in the coming days/week.  I'd love to hear what's going on with you.  What have I missed since I've last tweeted, blogged, or facebooked (we've gotta come up with a proper term for fb)?

A letter from my neighbor - OM [one moment] meet up #46

I've been able to hold it together this week although I still feel as if I'm on the verge of tears at all times.  The stress of selling our house and all that is involved in moving (I'm sure you are tired of hearing about it) is ever present.  I'm coasting through each day in a haze.

My back is officially on the outs.  It's my body's way of showing who's boss.  By doctors' orders, I'm banned from the gym and must "take it easy."  I wish someone could tell me how it is possible to "take it easy" when you have two active kids, a dog, and a husband (who works too many hours) and have to keep the house spotless at all times (for strangers and realtors to come through).

Not quite sure what is going on w/my back other than I have chronic pain and spasms.  Most certainly disk related, but there is nothing I can do but manage the pain and "take it easy."  I'm doing that to the best of my ability.

Back to keeping things together emotionally...

All was going well until I get a handwritten letter in the mail from my dear neighbor.  She is in her mid to late '80s, newly widowed, and the sweetest person you can meet.  Her letter basically said how nice it was to have us as her backyard neighbors.  She knew our move was coming but it wasn't real to her until she saw the "for sale" sign in our yard.

That did it.  Streams of tears and buckets of emotion came pouring out.

She goes on to write how she loved watching the kids grow up, that her late husband loved having the back door opened to hear the kids playing, and how our backyard parties and neighborhood get togethers were such happy gatherings.

Are you welling up yet?!

She remembered and listed many of the goodies we shared with her:  C's key lime pie and my French/Vietnamese sandwiches.

She even mentioned the most recent addition to our family - Sophie.

Flood gates are open.
I may never stop crying.

This was the kindest, most heart-felt letter I've ever received.  It even made C well up.  To have someone take the time to hand write this detailed letter and to have thought of us so affectionately is incredible.  I am deeply humbled...

...and now, officially, a basket case.

One more step completed in our move to Reno - OM [one moment] meet up #31

I hesitate to write about this because I don't want to jinx any part of it (I am slightly superstitious when it comes to these things).  However, with such a huge moment for us/me this week, I have to share a little.  Our impending move to Reno is falling into place in the most amazing way.

This week, our offer on a mid century modern house was accepted.  What a moment of relief for us and one in which the circumstances are surreal. I will tell you the whole story when that "moment" is right.  If all goes well, we will close on our new home July 7th.  Since so many things can happen between now and then, I'll save the rest for later.  However, I can't resist and must show you the main hallway in this house.  This will give you a little idea of why we are so excited.

How was your week?  I know Candy, of Candied Fabrics, had in twist of events in her week.  I'm pretty certain she'll update us on her blog.  I'm wishing sweet Logan a speedy recovery.
