The big reveal - Sophie, the newest member of our household

We bit the bullet, threw in the towel, waved the white flag, (insert cliche here). We got the boys (C being one of them) a dog.
Meet Sophie!
Family and friends, you probably need a moment to collect yourselves. I know this is a shocker.

It's taking me a while to get used to the idea, too.

The decision wasn’t without years of discussion, consideration, begging, wailing and gnashing of teeth (mostly mine). I knew the time would come and this happens to be the right time.

Don’t get me wrong. I like dogs. I've liked your your homes. I just never considered myself a dog person, at least not in my adult years.

So, for those who know me well, I’ve put together a list of the top 10 reasons I decided to get a dog.

10. I’m a sucker for cute faces (both dogs and boys).

9. They wore me down.

8. I believed them when they said they’ll take care of a dog.

7. It’s just a dog, not an elephant.

6. This was less painful than having another baby.

5. I’ve wanted another girl in the house.

4. I need a good listener.

3. I'm doing my part to dispel the stereotype that Asians don't like big dogs.

2. Come on, who can resist this face….

And the 1. Reason.....
My 13 year old trump card of C going to medical school and residency expires in a year. Now I can say, “but I let you get a dog!”

  1. She's beautiful! Oh my goodness! Congrats! I too don't consider myself a dog person. Does this mean we'll be getting on in about 10 years. I guess I'd better prepare myself now. haha!

    I love your reason's especially number 1 and 7.

  2. Fay Ray... Fay Ray... Fay Ray!!!
Yay!!! In a couple years.... Chundo, Chundo, Chundo!!!

  3. It will be the best decision you ever made. I never thought I was a dog person then 13.5 years ago we got AJ (an Australian Shepherd) for my son. Now we're about to lose the old boy and my heart is breaking. I'm spending time searching aussie rescue sites now. I don't know how long I'l be able to last without a snoochie poochie once he's gone.

  4. Whoa mama- she's cute! Sophie is going to make you SO HAPPY (just keep telling yourself that when she is chewing on the table legs and barking at the wind)- just kidding- she will add so much love and learning to your family...

    but good luck for now....

    xo- Cat :)

  5. You forgot reason #11: because giving attention to 3 boys just doesn't take enough of your time.

  6. By the way, there will be times when it does feel as painful as having another baby!!! ;) Good luck and welcome, Sophie! Beth

  7. The number 5 reason is perfect....we all need another gal friend...

  8. Awww...she's a cutie pie - and you NEEDED another trump card!

  9. She's so, so, so, so, so cute!!! As long as you're consistent with her routine and get those long legs some exercise, she'll be great!!!! Get ready for your heart to open-up about a mile wide!!

  10. AAH! That is big news. She is gorgeous - I hope you have a ton of fun with her.

  11. Thank you, all! I didn't realize how many dog lovers there are out there! I may be asking some of you for advice!

  12. Oh my. Welcome to the world of Weimaraners. Your life will never be the same. Oh, and I very much like your blog too. Cheers! Barbara

  13. That's a great looking dog! Keep us posted on puppy life. my daughter wants a dog so bad, but I don't want to take care of a dog right now!

  14. oh my gosh -SO jealous! i've always wanted a weimaraner. she's beautiful!

  15. Congratulations to you! You gotta love Weims and their soulful eyes.

Dogs are wonderful creatures, as we have welcomed Dog #2, Ally (Basset Hound/Brittany mix) into our home this week. I have never regretted the decision of adopting her or Blaster (Bluetick Coonhound).

Please remember that positive reinforcement does wonders!

  16. Congratulations on the dog. I agree, much less pain than child birth, but can be equally as hard work! We have a 'ginger Weimeraner' (sp?) i.e a Hungarian Vizsla

She is lovely but boy does she need walking :o)

  17. Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of owning a Weim. All we've ever had and we adore them to pieces. Ever seen Best in Show w/ Parker Posey? If not, you've got to. Great news is that Weims get real deal mellow at about 5. Enjoy the high-intensity energy until then!

  18. We have been so lucky in that Sophie is pretty calm for her age.

I loved Best in Show but need to watch it now from a dog owner perspective. I must also admit I love Triumph the insult comic dog's visit to Westminster.

It's a whole different world for us!
