Does this look familiar? Guess and they are yours!

These earrings were made from the pages of a design magazine. The image is embedded in glass-like resin atop 3/4" hand painted wood rounds. I'm always looking for comfortable everyday earrings and these fit the bill! They are lightweight and add a hint of color that will compliment any outfit.
If you can tell me what they were in their magazine form, they are yours...for FREE! One guess per customer please. You can email me (info@alamodestuff.com), leave a comment on this post, or convo me on Etsy. Just be sure to leave me your contact information.

Stop to smell the flowers!

I wish you could smell these. Our large jasmine plant has bloomed and the fragrance fills the house. Nothing brightens a moment more than the smell of flowers.

I finished the seatbelt messenger bag that I started a few weeks ago. It had been sitting on my work table 90% complete all this time. I tend to move from project to project frequently. I hope to finish a seatbelt tote today and start on that will be gray and black.

Great eco friendly, urban chic work/travel bags

Here are two new bags I made this week. Both are fashionable work horses. The first one is a custom order and the other can be purchased in my Etsy shop.

The lightweight neoprene (think scuba fabric) is highly durable yet urban chic. Blue faux suede peeking through the grommets add a punch of color and contrast. The neoprene and seat belts are both first quality factory overruns slated for the landfill. So, this bag is also environmentally friendly!

On a personal note, I have used one similar to the one below for several years. It has been to many places and is my favorite travel bag - both fashionable and functional!

Addition to post 3/06/09, 3:40 PM - Be sure to check out my inaugural post on www.scoutiegirl.com/. On Fridays, I'll be featuring designers and artists in different areas of the US and including upcoming art shows and festivals in those areas. See the Scoutie Girl image in the column on the right. --------------------------->

Repurposing at its finest

Many months ago, I was visiting one of my clients. She owns a great boutique that sells everything from clothes to household goods. Her eclectic store even carries a line of beautiful carpets that can be chosen from a wonderful sample display.

I noticed quite a number of samples propped in the corner and inquired. They were discontinued sample squares that she sells to customers who often used them as plant coasters. As I began thumbing through them I commented on how beautiful they were and that it was a shame that there weren't more uses for them. Bending a piece in my hand, I formed a shape that reminded me of a clutch (handbag). Ah, yes, make a handbag...that's what I do...I didn't know how but I figured I'd give it a try. So, I purchased 3 squares hoping that I'd actually get around to making a little bag out of it.

I often acquire obscure items with plans of up cycling them into objet d'art. More often, said items get buried to never be seen from again. Well, I am happy to say I actually did as I'd hoped and here is the result:I have yet to make the other 2 squares into bags, but hope to soon. In the meantime, this little one of a kind (ooak) number can be purchased in my Etsy shop.
