Congratulations to star_momma!
Many thanks to all the participants and a special thanks to Danielle!
Not too long ago, I came across Reshape Studio and immediately loved what I saw.  Danielle Spector, a product designer out of Brooklyn, is the clever and talented artist behind these wonderfully quirky mouth vases.

After getting a degree in product design from Parsons School of Design and working as a corporate furniture designer, she realized that she missed getting her hands dirty.  She recently founded Reshape Studio where she now works with clay, mostly slip-casting handmade ceramics, reinterpreting everyday objects in new and unexpected ways.

What inspires your designs? How did you come up with your whimsical mouth vase?

I am usually inspired by things that are kind of whimsical or humorous. Or often times it is all about taking a classically beautiful idea and reinterpreting it in new, or more interesting way.  Some favorite designers are Hella Jongerius or most of what is being made in the design collective Droog.

The 'Mouth / lip Series' project originally started as part of a senior thesis in college on how to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the home, through the use of therapeutic products. For example, if you were germaphobic, the idea of using a cup and saucer with lipstick stains and dirty fingerprint would probably creep you out, right? But through repeated use (exposure therapy) of this cup and saucer, one may become desensitized to the anxiety, and eventually get over their fear of contamination. As time has passed, I realized that this project had more applications than just the therapeutic realm. It has morphed into something funny and unique. Hey, at least the act of pouring tea and milk through a spout that was cast from an actual human mouth should make you chuckle!

Other than on Etsy, how can people find/see your work?

What other art form would you like to try/learn?

I would like to explore Jewelry making a little more. I already have some jewelry projects going that involve ceramic, but I would like to learn more about casting and soldering with metals. I also love textile arts like quilting, but have never had the patience to really take on a quilt project myself!
