A childhood favorite coming to life

I wouldn't say my oldest son is a namesake of Maurice Sendak's Max from Where the Wild Things Are, however, this book did come up in our conversations when picking his name. It has been a favorite book of mine since I first checked it out from my grade school library. I remember reading the book and wishing that somehow I could be transported to an island of cuddly monsters. Since then, I've purchased many copies as gifts for others and little plushies for my boys (okay, me).

Filmmaker Spike Jonze is bringing this childhood favorite to life. By all accounts, it looks like it will be a good movie. Catherine Keener, one of my husbands favorite actors, is playing Max's mom. With music such as Arcade Monkey's "Wake Up" powering the trailer, I'm hopeful that the soundtrack will be great as well. The movie is scheduled to open October 2009.

Let the wild rumpus begin!

  1. Did you every hear the interview they did with the author? His books are deeper then I realized from first reading them. If you haven't heard the interview, I imagine you can still hear it on the NPR website.
